The Monograph appeared in two parts, the first part in 1841 and Part 2 the following year. This work only had 30 plates and 84 subscribers and was clearly Gould’s rarest publication. The Third part was dispensed with when he decided to embark on a further bold venture, The Mammals of Australia containing 182 plates with a list of 125 subscribers. This latter work was commenced in 1845 and finished in 1863.
