Original WWI patriotic printed cotton and silk hand-kerchief embellished with battle scenes. A central domestic setting shows a family with a young child singing the stirring patriotic song Keep the Home Fires Burning. Central to the motifs are the lyrics and music to the chorus of the song made famous by Ivor Novello. Novello wrote the music and Lena Guilbert Ford the lyrics. The music and lyrics were copyrighted and it states with-in the banner This song may be obtained of all Music Sellers or of the Publishers Messrs Ascherberg, Hopwood and Crew Ltd, 16 Mortimer Street London W.

 The hand-kerchief shows the flags of the principle Allied Nations and all Commonwealth nations involved in the conflict, a testament to the international coalition that came together to oppose the forces of darkness. Note the lack of the American flag, the United States did not join the conflict until April 1917.

This piece with its intricate details and rich symbolism, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during World War I. It is a testament to the enduring power of hope, unity, and the indomitable human spirit.
