Wonderful Post WWII Era Revised Edition of  Gregory’s Map of the World  No 102  Available at Booksellers, Stationers and Newsagents…Distributed by Gregory’s Guides and Maps Production Clive Barrass – Copyright.

Below mount is a List of Countries With Area and Populations.

All Communist countries are coloured in green including East Germany which was occupied by Russia after WWII. We can date this Revised Edition to 1949 as East Germany officially became known as the German Democratic Republic on 7 October 1949. It was reunified with West Germany on 3 October 1990.

The Commonwealth of Nations was also formed in 1949. It was formed to maintain an association between countries that had once been part of the British colonies, but which were considered free and equal. On this map the Commonwealth is clearly delineated in the red/pink used traditionally by cartographers to highlight, what was the British Empire.

Clive Barrass (1906-1970)  was born in Melbourne and moved to Sydney when he was young. He held the Australian diving championship from 1927 to 1930, and served with the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II. Clive Barrass was a co-founder of Australian Guide Book Co. with Cecil Gregory in 1933. Together they produced the first Gregory’s Street Directory of Sydney and Suburbs. Maps drawn or draughted by Clive Barrass were published under his personal name, as well as his company name, the Clive Barrass Map Publishing Company.

Gregory Publishing Co. changed its name c 1950 to Gregory’s Guides and Maps, Pty. Ltd. The Company then became (1978-1979) Gregory’s Street Directories, Guides and Maps, then became Gregory’s Publishing Co. which became its official name from 1979.
