Wonderful early chromolithographed map of London on a scale of 3 1/2 Inches to1 Mile the Map is in quarter-mile squares detached from its original hard cover printed by E. J Larby 1 Paternoster Avenue EC London for C Smith & Sons London, Map and Globe Publishers

The map covers an area from Willesden, Acton and Barnes in the west to Hackney, West India Docks & the Isle of Dogs (Docklands) in the East. This map is one of the first editions of this popular map which shows London on one side; and on the verso; the country 25 miles around. The Map is ruled in quarter mile squares. The Underground and Electric Railways are in red and Bus and Tram Car Routes are shown in Yellow. Large letters throughout the map (N.W) indicate the Postal Districts with Municipal Boroughs boundaries shown in red.

This most ‘up to date’ map includes the Stadium near White City and very close to Olympia. The stadium was hastily built for the Games of the IV Modern Olympiad held in 1908. Rome had been chosen for the 1908 Games but the disastrous eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 1906 meant funds from the Italian Government was channeled into the recovery effort.
