The map is part of A Series of Maps, Modern & Ancient, issued by subscription. Each folder in the series contained a set of two maps bound together. The original folders contained the names of the committee members of the Society, maps already published, the contents and the printer and publication details.
The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) was published in its entirety or in part by many publishers including Baldwin and Cradock 1829-32; Chapman & Hall in 1844; Charles Knight & Co 1846 – 1852; G. Cox published the SDUK in 1852-3; J & C Walker, over numerous years and Stanford on occasion from 1857 to 1870. Later revised editions were also published after Stanford by J & C Walker.
