Original lithographed map of South Western Australia which was included in a short guide to the conditions of Land Settlement. The map shows various land uses the 10 to 40 inch rainfall lines, various soil types and the extent of the Rabbit Proof Fence from Ongerup in the South to Mullewa in the North. It is to be noted that that Guano was being mined in the Abrolhos at this time. Published by Fred Simpson, Government Printers, Perth and issued under the direction of the Honourable James Mitchell, CMG MLA Minister for Lands. Sir James Mitchell (1866 – 1951) served as Minister for Lands on two occasions from 1901 to 1911 and from 1919 to 1924. He was the 13th Premier of Western Australia also serving on two occasions.
