Lithographic map, part of the Upper Gascoyne Electoral District with hand drawn annotations including that of the Electoral District boundaries laid on linen. We assume that these maps were used to define new electoral boundaries and may be unique, being the amended and updated copies of this map to the 1st November 1900. There are signatures in ink to the bottom right one with the initials NSB 1/11/00 presumably that of the Chief Draughtsman. The general area covered is from Walbarune Peak in the Kennedy Range to the west, Mt Sandman to the north and Mount Gascoyne and Landor to the East. It also shows the course of the Gascoyne River. The stock route and surveying routes are also shown including all pastoral leases and the names of their owners.John Sherlock Brooking was Deputy Surveyor General from 1887 to 1890 and became acting Surveyor General in 1890 when John Forrest, his predecessor, relinquished the position, to become Treasurer and Premier of Western Australia. Brooking acted in the position for six years before retiring
