Detailed plans and maps of Western Australia and the localities and towns within, taken from the Seventh Census of Western Australia Taken for the night of 31st March 1901. Australia became an independent nation on 1st January 1901 when the British Parliament passed legislation allowing the six Australian colonies to govern in their own right as part of the Commonwealth of Australia. It was established as a Constitutional Monarchy. The Census conducted on the 31st March was the first census for Australia as an independent country and therefore very important statistically. The Census districts followed the earlier electoral districts pre-Federation and all maps are delineated with this information. The plan was printed by H.J. Pether , photolithographer, Perth WA and cost 1/-
