Original detailed antique chromolithographed map of Australia showing the geological formations as known to date. The map was compiled from a Geological Map published by the Mining Department, Melbourne, with revisions by C.S. Wilkinson, F.G.S. Government Geologist, N.S.W. This was the first geological map of Australia to be published for the general public.
The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia was edited by the Hon. Andrew Garran LLD MLC and was illustrated under the supervision of Frederic B. Schell assisted by leading colonial and American artists of the day. There are over eight hundred wood engravings and chromolithographed maps celebrating the development of Australia to date. The Picturesque Atlas Publishing Company Limited had premises at 14 Wynyard Square Sydney. The work was printed in 42 parts, these subsequently being bound into 3 volumes.
